Summer Learning Journey- Week one- In the beginning(1800-1870) Day one: Arriving in New Zealand-Bonus Activity: Waka Ama
I wouldn't like to be in Waka Ama because, our waka could tip, also it would be hard work paddling and you would have to have a lot of upper body strength.
Cadence here from the Summer Learning Journey team!
I can see why you wouldn’t want to be in a Waka Ama race. It could be quite intense! I agree, you would need lots of upper body strength! Have you ever played a water sport before?
I love going out on my kayak, great exercise and I get to explore more of Auckland. I’m trying to get my dog Halia to sit on my kayak so she can join me on my adventures. I even bought her a little doggy lifejacket. Can’t wait to hear the sports you’re into.
My name is Megan and I am the Cluster Manager for the Ako Hiko cluster working alongside Clare and Cadence. I am very excited to see that you are participating in the Summer Learning Journey with us this year.
You have made it clear that you would not like to participate in a waka ama race. I think you are right, you would need to have very strong upper body strength but you would build up some great muscle while training. Have you ever had a go at kayaking or canoeing? I would love to hear about any experiences you have had.
I love any type of water sports and believe I would love to participate in a waka ama race. I thrive off team sports where we can share wins and loses together. Maybe one day I could find a club up here in Auckland and have a go.
I am looking forward to reading more of your posts. Keep up the awesome work Tiffany.
