Tiffany @ Wesley Intermediate School: Sadako and a Thousand Paper Cranes

I have chosen this piece of work to share because Im proud of it and I enjoyed learning about it. I also chose this work because it lets you know about what we were learning about. In this lesson miss alam read a book called sadako and a thousand paper cranes. I really liked that book because it was sad and there was heaps of action. Every time miss alam finished a new chapter we would draw what we heard onto our story board. I mostly enjoyed drawing about sadako and her story. When we finished the story we made paper cranes which was very hard people were getting extremely frustrated. Then we made paper lanterns I liked that part because we got to write values that we have or that we want.

Re-tell the Sadako story based on the storyboard pictures you have drawn.

Sadako is a normal girl her grandma died because of the hiroshima bomb
She practices her running so she can get into the junior athletics.
When she runs she runs faster than ever
When she stops she feels really dizzy but she doesn't tell anyone
Finally after she had finished running she collapsed and her parents took her to the hospital.
She was diagnosed with leukemia it was passed down from her family
She spent weeks in the hospital
Her friend Chizuko went to visit her.
She gave her paper to make paper cranes
She was trying to make a thousand cranes because it gave good luck
She was finally able to come home but she got sick again and had to return to hospital.
She hated making her mum cry because of her
She met her friend kenji at the hospital but days later he died
Chizuko came to visit and she brought her more paper cranes
Her mum made her a kimono and gave it to her
Chizuko came to visit and brought her more paper
Then finally she was getting weaker and weaker
She didn't have the strength to make anymore, the doctor came in and told her to rest
And that night sadako died
Her best friend Chizuko told everyone in the school to make paper cranes for sadako to put in her grave
Eventually they made 1000 paper cranes and they buried it with sadako
Her best friend Chizuko went on to make a monument for sadako and other children that have been affected by the Hiroshima bomb
There is now a statue of sadako
